The word derives from 12th century Florence, Italy, where each district had its own unique banner, or gonfalon. The gonfalons became symbols of state and were carried in processions by a chief magistrate or other elected official. Outstanding students are awarded the honor of carrying their schools gonfalon and leading their fellow graduates into the stadium. Our gonfalonieres this year are: Gargi Kher, College of Arts & Sciences Geoff Balkman, Graduate SchoolAnna Lee, College of Arts & Sciences Lupita Santillan, Graduate SchoolMadison McCann, College of Arts & Sciences Kedi Yan, Graduate SchoolCameron Molyneux, College of Arts & Sciences Maya Esquivido, GraduateSchoolMicah Enrique Lusignan Santiago, College of Arts Kiran Pradhan, Information School& Sciences Akoly Vongdala, Information SchoolEmjay Stroming, College of Arts & Sciences Jeefchan Chandrasegar, School of LawKai Farmer, College of Built Environments Kai Braaten, School of MedicineEsaac Mazengia, College of the Environment Liam Malpass, School of NursingJaymar Vincent Golveo, School of Dentistry Lindsay Maritza Henderson, School of PharmacyAditi Rajendran, College of Education Shraddha Malla, School of Public HealthAlejandro Diaz, College of Engineering Norma Patricia Sanchez Ortiz, Evans School of PublicParker Ruth, College of Engineering Policy and GovernanceWaley Yin, Foster School of Business Evalynn Fae Taganna Romano, School of Social Work 3 '
